Mari Amman

It is that time of the year in Tamil Nadu, the feminine month of Adi and austerity - when Sun transits Crab nebula. 

When goddesses like Kalikambal, Mundaka-kanni, Mari amman and Bhadra-kali are worshipped. 

Women throng Amman temples, sing, dance, prepare porridge in earthen pots over wooden fires, as offering

Some people participate in rituals like walking on flowers of fiery charcoal, walking around temple carrying a pot of fire cushioned on neem leaves

Weddings are avoided, married couples do not come together and retail brands offer exciting discounts.
