Farm relocated from Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve

The horticulture department is winding up it's 21 acre, 122 year d farm at  Kallar in Mettupalayam to facilitate movement of wild animals; following an order by the Madras High Court.

Kallar is an important migratory corridor in the Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve - NBR- , which is the single largest population of Asiatic elephants. Continuous forest area is cut by borders of Kerala, Tamil Naidu and Karnataka. If connectivity is cut wild animals would stray form their natural routes and stray into human habitats.

K Kalidass, founder of OSAI, an NGO said, " Not just shifting of government owned property; ew appeal to private building owners as well to remove structures from the habitat."
